SUBMISSION GUIDELINES - PLEASE READ & FOLLOW CAREFULLY:

STEP 1 - PREPARING YOUR POEMS FOR SUBMISSION:

Type each poem that you would like to submit to us on a separate piece of paper

You may submit up to 3 poems (per submission)

Each poem MUST have a title

Maximum poem length is 40 lines

Minimum poem length is 5 lines

DO NOT use fancy fonts, pictures, inserts of any kind, or type your poems so that they form “shapes.” Type your poems in BLACK ink on WHITE paper.

All poems must be "aligned left" ... NO EXCEPTIONS! If your poem was originally written in the center of the page, please rework it so that it looks good and reads well from the left.

DO NOT sign your poems or include your name anywhere on the page. (You will be filling out and attaching a COVER PAGE that will include this information.)

Please remember to edit your work and correct any misspelled words. Spell check is not always reliable; if you’re not sure of the correct spelling of a word, look it up in the dictionary.

Should your poem(s) be selected for publication in our annual Watermark Poetry Anthology, they will be printed (with the exception of font, font size and spacing) exactly as they were received.

STEP 2 - PREPARING YOUR COVER PAGE:

ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION MUST BE INCLUDED ON YOUR COVER PAGE. Please type it and proofread it.  It is very important that the information you provide us is correct. If, for any reason, you think that your email address may change in the coming months, please provide us with an alternate email so that you will be sure to receive any GOOD NEWS that we may be sending you!

"What makes an ordinary life extraordinary? The way you live it. And, what makes an ordinary poem extraordinary? The way you write it…

"I read thousands of poems every year, and there is nothing better in this world than to come across a poem that has a delicious touch of un-forget-ability to it. It may be about something as common as a disappearing hour, something I've read about a million times before, but if you can say it in a way that I'll never forget, in a way that is fresh and creative and wildly new, I promise you, I'll be writing 'Editor's Choice Award' across the top of it!

"Nothing excites me more than a poet who isn't afraid of the uncommon; a poet who gives me something to read that honors my love of  lyrical adventure and my longing to be enchanted, enraptured, surprised, enlightened, entertained, or inspired. Never forget that the reason people read poetry is to experience their own inner-world, a world that may not yet be familiar to them, and your job as a poet is to bring forth that world in a way that honors your readers and fulfills their desire to go where they have never been.

"Power and grace are an electric combination; scent and color and rhythm fascinate the senses; originality intrigues us; freedom astonishes us; and a poem that sings down the page makes our souls want to dance. Let your own uniqueness flow from that place where poetry is born, through your masterful hands, and into the center of our lives.

“We, your readers, can only experience what you allow yourself to give, so give us your all, give us your best; give us your authenticity, your strength, your wholeness, your beauty. Give us what we have not yet seen; what we have not yet dreamed; what we have not yet imagined. Give us your untamable, unstoppable mastery; touch us with your magic and allow us to experience an unforgettable moment of true poetic genius.”
